Humility in Election
Pr. Jeff Fromholz04 de dez de 2008
Election should be the doctrine in the Bible that most humbles us if understood properly. To understand the absolute unworthiness of God’s love and then to understand that for some reason found only in Him, He loves me is a thought that goes beyond comprehension. Why me? Why does God love me? Why did He choose to save me? I guess it can be better understood if wee think about a couple of turds floating in the toilet, you know, the ones that come back after you’ve already flushed. Well, that’s all for us. We’re really all a bunch of turds in God’s sight, rebellious, self-centered, lovers of sin and haters of God. Yet of His own desire, He decided to save some, to pluck them out of the toilet and transform them into a chocolate bar. Yet as you realize that you were a turd and that there is nothing lovable in a turd, the feeling in our heart should not be one of pride, “He picked me. I’m one of the elect”. But of humility, “Why did He pick me, I was a self-centered turd.” And really, that’s the point of it all, we’re all just really turds, even the chosen ones. And there’s not much pride to be found in that.
