O Mito do Inferno

Inferno, Bicho-papão, Papai Noel, fala-se sobre todos, alguns até com convicção, mas são coisas que ninguém mais, depois uma certa idade, acredita. Não que eu queira fazer uma comparação entre os três como se fossem iguais. Na verdade, o Papai Noel recebe muito mais propaganda que os outros dois. Mas que um desses tem muito a ver com a fé Cristã, isso tem. E se o inferno realmente não existe, Jesus não precisava vir e ninguém deveria se preocupar tanto sobre a eternidade. Imagine se todo esse papo sobre um lugar quente de sofrimento, for nada mais do que uma ameaça dos pastores tentando fazer pessoas agirem da forma que desejam. Imagine se o inferno for realmente uma criação da igreja. Será? E se o inferno for nada mais do que um mito? Onde isso nos deixa?

Será que a igreja de hoje em dia realmente acredita no inferno? Sei que todo mundo declara que existe um inferno e que Hitler e o resto dos caras maus vão pra lá, mas, será que realmente acreditamos que existe um lugar aonde pessoas sofrerão pela eternidade? Antes de dizer “sim” quero que você pare e analise algumas coisas. Quero colocar duas razões diante de você do porquê acredito que nós, como crentes, não cremos no inferno e que achamos ele um mito.

1. Quantos de nós conhecemos pessoas dentro de nossas famílias, na escola, no trabalho ou mesmo na vizinhança que estão indo para o inferno? E pra quantas dessas pessoas, ainda não temos achado “tempo” ou uma “oportunidade” de falar sobre Jesus e esse fato infernal? Será que podemos acreditar que o inferno existe e conhecer alguém que está indo pra lá sem avisá-lo, sem gritar, “Meu amigo, cuidado”? Tem jeito de assistir alguém entrar numa rua bem na frente de um carro e não gritar, “Cuidado!”? Pra mim, acho muito louca a idéia de saber que alguém pode morrer a qualquer momento sem ser salvo e ir para o inferno, e que eu consiga ficar de lado assistindo a Deus se arrepender por ter criado aquele lugar e deixá-lo entrar no céu, depois de viver uma vida inteira cuspindo na cara do Criador. Baseado no fato que tão poucos de nós estarmos fazendo evangelismo e do fato que muitos de nós acharmos mais fácil ficar calados em vez de arriscar ser xingado (na verdade estamos mais preocupados com nossas reputações do que com a eternidade do outro), tenho chegado à conclusão que nós, como crentes, não acreditamos no inferno. Pois, se acreditássemos, como poderíamos ficar calados?

2. Mas, falei de duas, pois não somente por falta de evangelizar, mas também, olhando para a vida dos “crentes” de hoje tem me confirmado que a conclusão que tirei porque ninguém se liga com o vizinho indo para inferno é certa: Ninguém acredita no inferno. Deixe-me falar, tudo bem, talvez você aceite que os “pecadores” irão para o inferno, mas, e os que continuarem pecando depois de “conhecer Jesus?” Se acreditamos que pecadores irão para o inferno, temos que crer também que Jesus encontrará pessoas na Sua frente dizendo, “Senhor, Senhor, não profetizamos nós em teu nome? e em teu nome não expulsamos demônios? e em teu nome não fizemos muitas maravilhas?” E Ele responderá, “Nunca vos conheci; apartai-vos de mim, vós que praticais a iniqüidade.” Meu amigo, se pararmos para analisar essa conversa, veremos três coisas: 1. Que as pessoas falando naquela ocasião com ele são da igreja e se acham numa boa com Jesus e 2. Jesus não os conheceu e 3. Eles estavam praticando a iniqüidade (pecando). A maravilha na igreja hoje em dia é o jeito em que temos achado como desculpar ou ignorar o pecado, algo que não devemos fazer, mal podemos arriscar. Jesus está voltando para uma noiva limpa e santa, não para uma prostituta.

Hoje em dia, o maior desafio que existe na igreja é de discernir quem faz parte do time ou não. Infelizmente não há uma grande diferença entre os “salvos” e os “perdidos” pela maneira de viver, atualmente. Tá todo mundo namorando, todo mundo transando, todo mundo curtindo o traseiro do diabo (TV) em vez de buscar a face do Senhor, todo mundo mentindo... e vai embora. Se fosse um tribunal com um juiz, acho muitos teriam dificuldade de provar que são crentes mesmo. O negócio tá solto demais. Para onde foram os dias em que falávamos em santidade, sem vergonha disso e sem que alguém nos xingasse ou chamasse de “radical”. Meu, santidade em si é radical! Deus é radical! Se duvidar, leia sua Bíblia. Não existe meio santo ou quase santo. Você é ou não é. E se você não é, qual a sua garantia que não se achará dentro daquela turma recebendo a notícia ruim que tudo fora feito em vão, pois Ele não te conhece. Mas, verdadeiramente, você deveria saber antes, pois sua vida realmente não mudou tanto, só os lugares que você freqüentava, mas no fundo, o pecado ficou, te comprometendo. Que engano. Que perigo.

Onde você se encontra? Pecando? Enrolado? Cuidado! O negócio não é brincadeira. Mas, por falta de santidade, por falta de pessoas buscando a santidade, não acredito que os “crentes” de hoje em dia acreditem no inferno e na possibilidade que possam até chegar lá. Estão apostando num Deus “avô”, cheio de misericórdia, que de jeito nenhum os mandaria para o inferno, esquecendo o fato que Seu Filho foi massacrado lá na cruz para que pessoas pudessem brincar com o sangue Dele, se chamando de “crentes” e O traindo com toda forma de pecado. Cuidado, esse Deus bravo do Antigo Testamento é o mesmo ontem, hoje e sempre. Não se engane pensando que Ele não está vendo ou que Ele não se importa, ou porque você não vê conseqüências ruins que está tudo bem e sempre estará assim. Um dia Ele soltará Sua ira santa de novo e punirá a todos que merecem. Não brinque com isso.

Se acreditamos que o inferno existe mesmo, deve-se gerar dois resultados em nossas vidas:

1. Não vamos achar como nos calar. Teremos um desespero por dentro por aqueles que estão caminhando pra lá e faremos de tudo para avisá-los.

2. Mudaremos a nossa vida. Vamos nos preocupar com o pecado solto e não o questionado por dentro. Deus não tem aliança com o pecado e, se você se acha vivendo conscientemente no pecado, qual é a sua garantia que Ele tem aliança com você? Não para dizer que nossa santidade nos salvará mas, ela é uma prova viva de nossa salvação, de uma vida mudada.

Mt 7:21-23; Nem todo o que me diz: Senhor, Senhor! entrará no reino dos céus, mas aquele que faz a vontade de meu Pai, que está nos céus. Muitos me dirão naquele dia: Senhor, Senhor, não profetizamos nós em teu nome? e em teu nome não expulsamos demônios? e em teu nome não fizemos muitas maravilhas? E então lhes direi abertamente: Nunca vos conheci; apartai-vos de mim, vós que praticais a iniqüidade. 

Sl 9:17; Os ímpios serão lançados no inferno, e todas as nações que se esquecem de Deus.

Mt 10:28; E não temais os que matam o corpo e não podem matar a alma; temei antes aquele que pode fazer perecer no inferno a alma e o corpo.

2 Pe 2:4; Porque, se Deus não perdoou aos anjos que pecaram, mas, havendo-os lançado no inferno, os entregou às cadeias da escuridão, ficando reservados para o juízo;

Ap 20:14-15; Esta é a segunda morte, o lago de fogo. E aquele que não foi achado escrito no livro da vida foi lançado no lago de fogo.

Ap 21:8; Mas, quanto aos tímidos, e aos incrédulos, e aos abomináveis, e aos homicidas, e aos fornicadores, e aos feiticeiros, e aos idólatras e a todos os mentirosos, a sua parte será no lago que arde com fogo e enxofre; o que é a segunda morte.

Mc 9:43-44; E, se a tua mão te escandalizar, corta-a; melhor é para ti entrares na vida aleijado do que, tendo duas mãos, ires para o inferno, para o fogo que nunca se apaga, Onde o seu bicho não morre, e o fogo nunca se apaga.

Mt 25:41; Então dirá também aos que estiverem à sua esquerda: Apartai-vos de mim, malditos, para o fogo eterno, preparado para o diabo e seus anjos;

Mt 25:46; E irão estes para o tormento eterno, mas os justos para a vida eterna.

Lc 13: 27-28; E ele vos responderá: Digo-vos que não sei de onde vós sois; apartai-vos de mim, vós todos os que praticais a iniqüidade. Ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes, quando virdes Abraão, e Isaque, e Jacó, e todos os profetas no reino de Deus, e vós lançados fora.

O inferno não é um mito. Ele existe e pessoas vão pra lá. Vamos fazer questão que ninguém vá sem ser avisado, pelo menos os deixando ter uma oportunidade. E vamos fazer questão que nenhum de nós vá acabar caindo lá também

The Myth of hell

Hell, the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, all things variably spoken of, some even with conviction, but all things that after a certain age, no one really believes in. Not that I want to make a comparison between the three as if they were equal for in reality, Santa Claus receives far more attention than the other two. But, he has nothing to do with the Christian faith and thus holds very little interest for me. One though, does have a lot to do with the Christian faith, hell. For if hell doesn’t really exist, then Jesus didn’t need to come and there is really no need to worry about eternity. Imagine if all of this talk about some place hot and full of suffering is nothing more than an empty threat coming from frustrated pastors in some vain attempt to get people, in some form, to act in a desired manner. Imagine if hell is really only a creation of the church and not real after all. Could it be? And if hell is only a myth, where does that leave us?

Are we to truly believe that the church of today actually believes in hell? I know that everyone says that there is a hell where Hitler and all of the bad people go, but, do you suppose that we really, truly believe that there exists a place where people will go and suffer for eternity? Before you mindlessly utter a “yes”, I would like for you to consider a few things with me. I would like to set before you two reasons as to why I do not believe that we, as Christians today, believe in hell thereby relegating it to the status of myth, nothing more than some fairy that comes and steals teeth.

How many of us know people, be it in our family, school, work or just neighborhood that are going to hell? And how many of these have we yet to “find” time or the right “opportunity” to speak to them of the death of Jesus on the cross and the impending judgment of hell for those that are not found in Him? Is it possible for one to truly believe that hell exists and know someone who is going there yet not warn him? Have we truly found a way to be so cold and senseless that we can watch someone step out into the street in front of a car without screaming, “Look out!”? For me personally, I find it incredibly absurd if not down right insane to know that someone could die at any moment and go to hell all the while why we, “Christians”, sit off on the side watching the whole scene play out as though God might somehow repent of having created hell and in the end let the offender (sinner) enter into heaven; all of this after having spent a lifetime spitting in the face of God. Based on the fact that so few are actually evangelizing the lost and the fact that many find it easier to stay quiet than to risk being ridiculed (the truth being that we are more worried about our reputation that the eternity of the other person), I have been forced to come to the conclusion that we do not really believe in hell. For, if we believe, how can we stay silent?”

But, I spoke of two reasons, for not just the lack of evangelism, but also looking at the lives of “Christians” today has confirmed to me that my conclusion, based on no one really caring about the lost going to hell, was right. No one believes in hell. Now, let me speak. Maybe you do believe that “sinners” will go to hell, but what about those that continue to sin after “knowing” Jesus? If we believe that sinners will go to hell, we have to also believe that there will be people who will present themselves to Jesus one day who will find less than a loving embrace. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” My friend, if we stop to analyze these verse, we must come to few conclusions: 1) The people who are speaking to Jesus are from the church and think that they are okay with Jesus based on religious acts that they had done and 2) Jesus did not know them, there was no relationship there and 3) They were sinning in their lives (evildoers or as the KJV puts it, workers of iniquity, sin). The incredibly amazing thing in the church today is how we have found a way to ignore or make excuses for sin, something that we shouldn’t do and dare not risk. Jesus is returning for a pure and spotless bride, not a prostitute.

In today’s world, one of the biggest challenges that we have is trying to discern who is on our team and who is not. Sadly, based on the way that lives are lived; there is not a huge difference between those who are “saved” and those who are “lost”. Everyone is dating (and we all know what goes on in a dating relationship), having sex outside of marriage, wasting time watching the devil’s butt (TV) when they could be seeking God’s face, lying, stealing and the list goes on. If we were to find ourselves in a court of law and before a judge, I think that many of us would have a hard time proving that we are really Christians. The whole thing is out of control. What happened to the days in which we could speak of walking in holiness without shame or fear of being ridiculed and called an “extremist” or “radical”. 1 Peter 1:14-16; As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” My friend, holiness in and of itself is “radical”. It is an “extreme” concept. God is holy! God is “radical”! If you doubt it, read your Bible. There is no such thing as “pretty holy” or “almost holy”. You are or you are not. And if you are not, what is your assurance that you will not be found among those receiving the awful news that all that you have done was done in vain because you are OUT! He doesn’t know you. But really, you should have already known because you really haven’t changed that much, other than where you hang out and where you go on Sundays. But, deep down inside, sometimes not so deep, the sin and the practice of it stayed, compromising who you were and whom you thought you should be. What a great deception. What danger. So, where do you find yourself today? Compromised? Living in sin? Be careful, this isn’t a game.

Lack of evangelism, lack of holiness or lack of those truly seeking holiness in their lives, what is one left to think? And for this I state that I do not believe that a large majority of those who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ believe that hell is a real place and there is a real possibility that they could end up there. They are betting foolishly on an old grandpa type God, full of love and mercy, that in no way could possibly send them to hell, forgetting the fact that it was His Son massacred on the cross in order that “believers” could play church and go on sinning, stepping on His blood as though it were something common and worthless and betraying Him with every sinful act. Do not be caught sleeping on this point. That violent and angry God who had no patience for sin in the Old Testament is the same yesterday, today and forever more. Don’t deceive yourself into thinking that He doesn’t see all or that it really doesn’t matter what you do based on your conclusion that until now you have not suffered any grave consequences. It will always be that way. One day He will once again give full vent to His holy anger and punish all sin. Do not, I repeat, do not play around with this. “It is a terrible thing to find yourself in the hands of an angry God.”

If we truly believe that hell is real, there will be two evidences of it in our lives:

We will not be able to keep our mouths shut regarding Jesus, salvation and hell. There will be such desperation in us regarding those who are about to be consumed that we will have to tell them.

We will change our lives. We will be concerned with the sins that are running loose, and many times unchecked, in our lives. God has no covenant with sin, so if you find yourself living in sin, what is your assurance that he has a covenant with you? Not to say that our “holiness” saves us, but it is certainly proof of our salvation, the proof of a changed life and desires.

Mt 7:21-23; Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Mt 10:28; Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

2 Pe 2:4; For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;

Rev 20:14-15; Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Rev 21:8; But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

Mk 9:43-44; If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.

Mt 25:41; Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Mt 25:46; Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

Lk 13:27-28; But he will reply, ‘I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out.

Hell is not a myth. It is real and people will go there. It is up to us to make sure that no one ends up there without at least having been advised and at given an option. And let us make sure, each and every one of us, that we too do not end up going there. God bless you!
