Reforma, Revolta ou Rebelião

Pr.

There is a new breed of Christ-follower in America today. These are people who are more interested in being the Church than in going to church. They are more eager to produce fruit for the kingdom of God than to become comfortable in the Christian subculture. They are focused on the seven spiritual passions that facilitate their growth as genuine people of God and citizens of the kingdom. These people are Revolutionaries.

Reform vs Revolution

It is said that people who want to change society can be divided into one of two camps; they are either reformers or revolutionaries. To illustrate the difference, lets use an analogy; lets say there is a house we want to change. The reformer will advocate buying new furniture, changing the carpets, re-wallpapering, maybe adding an extension to the side of the house, fitting central heating etc. In other words, whilst society is essentially ok, it does need some changes of various types to restore it to maximum strength and potential.

Revolutionaries however, are different. They advocate completely demolishing the house, tearing up the foundations and building a new house completely from scratch in its place. They regard the house as being totally against what they wish to build, so they set about trying to tear it down aggressively, clearing the way to build a new house on the site of the rubble of the old.

Whenever a change leaves the internal mechanism untouched, we have reform; whenever the internal mechanism is changed, we have revolution.

Of course, no internal change is possible without external manifestations. The internal changes denoted by the revolution go accompanied with external marks. And therein lies one of the pitfalls into which “reforms” invariably tumble. They have noticed that externals change with internals; and they rest satisfied with mere external changes, without looking behind the curtain.

the revolutionist submit to the will of the majority

Yet the run-of-the-mill spiritual disciplines promoted in evangelical America seem to produce in me what they do in everyone else... mediocrity.

Attitude toward God

There appears to be a growing trend among evangelicals that Christians are to "enjoy" God while, at the same time, there is a de-emphasis on fearing God

Deus meu melhor amiguinho.

Jer 5:22 (NIV) "Should you not fear me?" declares the Lord. "Should you not tremble in my presence?"

1Pe 2.17

2 Cor 5:11 (NIV) Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men...

Ps 34:11 (NEB) Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Ps 89:7 (NIV) In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared.

Ps 76:4,7 (NIV) You [O God] are resplendent with light... You alone are to be feared.

Isa 8:12-13 (NIV) ...Do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.

Mat 10:28 (NIV) [Jesus] "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Luke 12:4-5 (Jer) "To you my friends I say: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. I will tell you whom to fear; fear him who, after he has killed, has the power to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him."

Prov 8:13 (NIV) To fear the Lord is to hate evil.

Ps 118:4 (NIV) Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever."

He delights in those who fear him (Ps. 147:11);

Attitude toward the world

Come out and be separate

(EXEMPLOS)

2 Tim. 3:12

God's people march to the beat of a different drummer. God's obedient people will always offend the world, no matter how much we seek to be peacemakers and to walk in compassion and love. Our very life-styles are a reproof to the ungodly.

Michael Swwet “All this and Heaven too.”

Attitude toward sin

Puritan John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim's Progress, described sin like this: "Sin is the dare of God's justice, the rape of His mercy, the jeer of His patience, the slight of His power and the contempt of His love."

Nós chamamos pecado entretenimento hoje em dia.

Nós chamamos pecado amigo hoje.

Nós chamamos pecado uma escolha.

Nós falamos que somos slavos e é nada a ver.

We should hate sin.

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Hebrews 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud F21 look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

1. Psalms 119:104 - "Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way."

2. Proverbs 8:7 - "For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips."

3. Jude 23 - "but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh."

B. We should repent of (turn away from) sins.

1. God wants us to turn to him in sincere repentance.

a. Joel 2:13- "So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm."

1 Thessalonians 5:22- "Abstain from every form of evil."

"Some people seem willing to do anything to become a Christian except to give up their sins." We need to give up sin, stay away from sin, and hate sin, if we are to expect to become like Christ and live with the heavenly Father when we leave this world.

Infelizemente a ignorância é profunda.

The dawning of the 21st century finds the church of America in a moral and spiritual crisis. Decades of self-centered living and worldliness have taken their toll. Years of compromise and toothless gospel preaching have had their effect. And now we have reached the moment of truth: Either we wake up, stand up, speak up, and act up, or we run the risk of becoming a mere historic curiosity, an irrelevant religious sideshow, an entertaining, harmless spectacle. Something must change, and it must change now.

Revolution means upheaval. Revolution means the overthrowing of the status quo. We dare not downplay the significance of the word. Revolution is a matter of life and death, and our revolution flows from the blood of the Savior to the blood of the martyr.

And hear is where the real men are separated from the pretenders. The church deosn’t lack in those who are ready in a moments notice to criticze and point out all ofthe present errors, and most live on the doorstep threatening at any [point to live. But the truth is that they are nothing more than empty words latas vazias, bla, bla, bla, andin the end they lack the courage to do the very thing they threaten and profess in wanting to do, staying in the same place that wreaks of death but lacking the courage to step out into the fresh air. They will neither reform nor revolt and risk being vomit one day as their place is surely to be found among the lukewarm.

“Christian Revolutionaries” –- believers who demonstrate much higher commitment to group worship, personal spiritual growth, Bible study and biblical beliefs, community ministry, evangelism and financial investment in Christian work. However, Barna sees them embracing diverse forms of leadership, fellowship and worship (including house churches), placing more emphasis on “lifestyle affinities” and less on denomination, more emphasis on relationships and experiences and less on doctrine.

Rather than seasoning the world like salt and brightening the world like light, we now smell and taste like the world, and its darkness is snuffing out our lamps. Rather than setting captives free by the power of Jesus' blood, many of us are being ensnared and enslaved, making a mockery of that sacred blood. Rather than making disciples of sinners and teaching them the ways of God, many of use are being discipled by them, learning their ways, imitating their lifestyles, and conforming to their values.

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were commanded to worship an idol or be subject to a fiery death, they refused to bow down (Daniel 3). But today, with no one commanding us, we freely worship the idols of our society, bowing down to the gods of unclean entertainment, sensual fashion, and unbridled materialism and greed. Our obsession with sports is idolatrous as well, to the point that many churches throughout the land make sure their Sunday services end in time for the afternoon football games, canceling their services entirely the night of the Super Bowl. We need a revolution!

When Daniel was told that an edict had been passed declaring that "anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except to [the] king, shall be thrown into the lions' den…he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before" (Daniel 6:10-12). It's time that we follow his lead. Godly defiance spells triumph while retreat spells defeat. We need a revolution!

The counterculture revolution began when people said, "something is missing. Something is wrong. There must be something greater than this." And they were right! There must be something greater than eating and drinking, working and sleeping, existing. There must be something greater than the American dream. There must be something greater than simply getting a good education so that you can find a good job and have a good family so that your kids can get a good education and find a good job and have a good family so that their kids can get a good education…. Is this really it? Is this why God put us here on this earth? There is more!

Revolution means upheaval. Revolution means the overthrowing of the status quo. We dare not downplay the significance of the word. Revolution is a matter of life and death, and our revolution flows from the blood of the Savior to the blood of the martyr. We put down our sword and take up our cross, overcoming Satan by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and by not loving our lives so much as to shrink from death (Rev. 12:11). Nothing can stop a revolution like this!

The ultimate failure of the "Reformatio" perhaps lies in its failure to be more radical.

It is time for a change, for a renewed Church which is no longer identified with the hierarchy, but with the entire Christian community, especially the vast majority of Christians who are married people and their families. What is needed is a new kind of community that starts with each Christian who takes responsibility to grow in his or her Christian life as much as possible, and goes on from there to be centered on the Christian family and small communities.

What stands in the way of such a change? On the one side it is the old clerical institution, itself, which although it has made a mess of things, guards its supposed power jealously. On the other side it is the laity conditioned to a passivity that leaves them believing that they have to wait for Father’s permission before they exercise their own creativity in renewing the Christian community. What we should actually do, however, is to simply go forward wherever we find ourselves in our journey towards God and build the Christian community, working within the present institutional structures if possible, or working around them if necessary, and doing this not in a spirit of discord but with a genuine faith in the mysteries of Christianity and a desire to embody them in the world we live in.
